What this tool answers

You need a first-pass garage shelving class before buying. Enter the heaviest single-shelf load in pounds. The calculator names the smallest class - 400, 500, or 600 lb/shelf - that clears that load, or returns NO_MATCH. It is not a structural engineering check or seismic design.

Why per-shelf capacity matters

Retail listings publish both per-shelf and total capacities. Buying on total alone can still overload one tier. Matching the heaviest shelf to published per-shelf ratings avoids that trap while stating the limits of this shopping screen.

Class ladder on this site

Classes use published VEVOR US 5-tier garage shelving ratings checked 2026-09-10: 400 lb/shelf (2,000 lb total), 500 lb/shelf (2,500 lb total), and 600 lb/shelf (3,000 lb total). Matching rule: smallest class where class.per >= shelf_lb.

When the answer is NO_MATCH

If the heaviest shelf exceeds 600 lb, this site returns NO_MATCH. Typical next steps: split the load, use pallet racking, or choose industrial shelving outside this screen. Do not force a 600 lb/shelf consumer unit.

Floor, loading, and climbing

Confirm live ratings. Assemble on a level floor. Load evenly; keep heavy items low. Never climb the unit. Anchor tall racks when required.
